    Applicability, as the AD words it

    Applicability, as the AD words it

    (1) This AD applies to Aspen Avionics, Inc., Evolution Flight Display (EFD) EFD1000 Primary Flight Display, EFD1000 Multi-Function Display (MFD), EFD1000 Emergency Backup Display, or EFD500 MFD units, that are installed on various aircraft and meet all conditions in paragraphs (c)(1)(i), (c)(1)(ii), and (c)(1)(iii) of this AD. (i) Software version 2.9 (SW 2.9) is installed; (ii) The Flight Information Service-Broadcast (FIS-B) Weather Interface option is enabled; and (iii) Independent airspeed, attitude, and altitude back-up instruments are not installed.     We are issuing this AD to prevent certain conditions from existing when PFDs display incorrect attitude, altitude, and airspeed information.

    Applicability, as the AD words it

    This AD applies to Avidyne Corporation (Avidyne) Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), part numbers (P/Ns) 700-00006-000, 700- 00006-001, 700-00006-002, 700-00006-003, and 700-00006-100 with any serial number listed in Avidyne Service Bulletin No. 601-00006-096, Revision 1, dated July 14, 2008. Paragraph (d) of this AD gives procedures to determine if an affected serial number is installed on your airplane. This AD applies to affected serial number PFDs that are installed on, but not limited to the airplanes below that are certificated in any category. (1) Adam Aircraft Model A500; (2) Cessna Aircraft Company Model 441 (STEC Alliant Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) No. SA09547AC-D incorporated); (3) Cessna Aircraft Company Models LC42-550FG and LC41-550FG (Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing and The Lancair Company previously held the type certificate for these airplanes); (4) Cirrus Design Corporation Models SR20 and SR22; (5) Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH Model DA 40; (6) Hawker Beechcraft Corporation Model E90 (STEC Alliant STC No. SA09545AC-D incorporated); (7) Hawker Beechcraft Corporation Model 200 series (STEC Alliant STC No. SA09543AC-D incorporated); and (8) Piper Aircraft, Inc. (d) If you have one of the affected part number PFDs installed on your airplane, you must positively show that it is not one of the affected serial numbers or comply with paragraph (f), all subparagraphs, as applicable in this AD. Under 14 CFR 43.7, the owner/operator holding at least a private pilot certificate is allowed to do the check in paragraph (d)(1) of this AD. All other actions must be done by a certificated mechanic, unless noted differently. (1) Do a logbook check of aircraft records (previously referred to in AD 2008-06-28 R1 as "maintenance records") to determine if any PFD (P/Ns 700-00006-000, 700-00006-001, 700-00006-002, 700- 00006-003, or 700-00006-100) with any affected serial number listed in Avidyne Service Bulletin No. 601-00006-096, Revision 1, dated July 14, 2008, is installed. (i) If, as a result of the logbook check, you positively identify that the PFD installed does not have a serial number affected by this AD, then only paragraph (f)(5) of this AD applies to you. (ii) If, as a result of the logbook check, you cannot positively identify the serial number of the PFD, do the visual inspection required in paragraph (d)(2) of this AD. (iii) If, as a result of the logbook check, you find any PFD installed with an affected serial number, do the actions required by paragraph (f) of this AD, including all subparagraphs as applicable. (2) If, as a result of the above logbook check, you cannot positively identify the serial number of the PFD, visually inspect any PFD (P/Ns 700-00006-000, 700-00006-001, 700-00006-002, 700- 00006-003, or 700-00006-100) for any affected serial number listed in Avidyne Service Bulletin No. 601-00006-096, Revision 1, dated July 14, 2008. (i) If, as a result of this visual inspection, you positively identify that the PFD installed does not have a serial number affected by this AD, then only paragraph (f)(5) of this AD applies to you. (ii) If, as a result of this visual inspection, you identify that the PDF installed does have a serial number affected by this AD, do the actions required in paragraph (f) of this AD, including all subparagraphs as applicable.

    Cirrus Design Corporation Model SR20 and SR22 Airplanes

    We are issuing this AD to prevent in-flight failure of the cabin door, which could result in door separation from the airplane.

What is an airworthiness directive (AD)?

An airworthiness directive is a legally enforceable rule the FAA issues under 14 CFR part 39 when it finds an unsafe condition in an aircraft, engine, propeller or appliance that is likely to exist in others of the same design. It says which products it applies to and what must be done, and by when: an inspection, a part replacement, a modification or a limitation. No one may operate a product to which an AD applies except in accordance with it.

How do I look up the ADs for my aircraft?

Type the N-number, or the make and model, into the box above. Radar finds the aircraft's make and model in the FAA registry and lists every AD published in the Federal Register whose applicability names it, newest first, with the AD's own applicability text and a link to the official document. The FAA's Dynamic Regulatory System (drs.faa.gov) holds the official list.

Does every AD in the results apply to my aircraft?

Not necessarily. An AD can be limited to serial number ranges, to aircraft with certain parts or modifications installed, or to a configuration. The results are ADs that may apply because they name the make and model. A certificated mechanic or inspector determines applicability against the aircraft's serial number and records, and records how each applicable AD was complied with.

What is the difference between a recurring and a one-time AD?

A one-time AD is complied with once, for example by replacing a part. A recurring (repetitive) AD requires an action again at an interval, such as an inspection every 100 hours or every 12 months, until a terminating action ends it. Radar marks an AD Recurring when its text requires repetitive actions; always read the AD for the intervals.

What does superseded mean?

When the FAA replaces an AD with a new one, the old AD is superseded: its requirements are carried into, or replaced by, the new AD. Results show the ADs in effect by default; superseded and removed ADs can be shown for the history.

Where does this data come from?

The Federal Register, where the FAA publishes every AD as a final rule. Radar reads each one from the Federal Register API (12,857 ADs since 1995) and refreshes the list every weekday. Make and model come from the FAA aircraft registry. ADs issued before 1995 are not in the Federal Register's online edition and are not included.

Are engine and propeller ADs included?

Only when their applicability names the aircraft. Most engine and propeller ADs name the engine or propeller model, so check those by the installed engine and propeller models. Appliance ADs that list the aircraft among those the appliance can be installed on are included and marked Appliance.
